Last Friday morning I headed out with The Big Guy to the California Delta to hunt for bass.  He has a very big fishing tournament coming up in a few weeks, and his Quest is to figure out where the bass are hiding and what sort of lures will make them bite.

But the Delta is such a huge place, finding the fish is never an easy task.  Luckily, it was a lovely day, with just enough of a breeze to counteract the heat of the sun as we sat on the open deck of the bass boat.  As for me, I’m just glad The Big Guy knows his way around, because everywhere we went in the boat looked pretty much the same to me.  It was beautiful, but so disorienting!

One thing I did NOT expect to see was a herd of sheep grazing on the levee.

We admired them as we drifted past; the sheep mostly did their best to ignore us.  But if the sheep weren’t all that thrilled with our company, this fellow was definitely not happy to see us there… and wasted no time in letting us know it was time to move along!

We took a break for lunch at a place known as Pirate’s Lair.

I didn’t spot any pirates — although there were a few girls hanging around the dock.

As the afternoon wore on, there were the big yachts cruising by, kicking up so many waves our bass boat must have thought we had strayed out onto San Francisco Bay.

After spending most of the day in our quest for fish, racing from one fishing spot to the next, in the end all The Big Guy had to show for it was one relatively small bass (which was quickly released back into the water).
