A few more pictures from San Antonio this week…

San Antonio’s beautiful River Walk — the first serious plans were drawn up in 1929, and organized construction commenced in 1939.

The Casa Rio first opened in 1946 (the River Walk project’s main architect kept his office right next door).  It’s one of the most photographed spots in San Antonio.

The San Antonio Municipal Auditorium was built in 1926 as a memorial to American soldiers killed in the First World War.  It is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

I only recognize one face in this group of photos, but they were people my mom and dad knew during my dad’s enlistment in the Army Air Force. Besides spending time at Kelly Field in San Antonio, he was also stationed in Japan during this period, working as an airplane mechanic.

Next week, we leave Texas and return to California — I’ll have some images from a 1951 trip to Yosemite National Park!
