The Stuff of Bucket Lists: Arashiyama Bamboo Forest – TRAVELLING THE WORLD SOLO

I must admit, I had been mildly worried that Arashiyama would be one of those places that looks absolutely spectacular in pictures only to be a letdown when seen in real life, but that was definitely not the case. It was every bit as beautiful as I had imagined it to be, possibly even more so.

Bamboo Forests
One of the blogs I enjoy reading is Travelling the World Solo, written by Ellen Burne. About a month ago she posted about the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest in Kyoto, Japan.  The images she shared of the path through the incredible bamboo grove really struck me. I had never seen anything quite like it before.

I figure there’s not much chance of my ever making it to Japan to see the real thing in person.  But just when I thought I’d forgotten about the beautiful bamboo forest of Arashiyama, I stumbled upon something that brought it right back to my mind.

While I’m certain they pale in comparison to the real thing in Japan, some of the walkways in the Safari Park near Escondido, California, are lined with lovely, tall bamboo plants, offering both shade and a small hint of what it must feel like to walk though the Arayashimi Bamboo Forest.
