Phoenix Park is only a mile or so down the road from my house; I drive past and always promise to visit but then forget about it until the next time. Since all the rain we’ve been getting has produced exceptional vernal pools this year, I knew I couldn’t miss the chance to stop and explore. On this weekday morning, I had the place almost entirely to myself.

All to myself except for a few of the “natives” — and a handful of tourists in the form of Canada geese — taking advantage of the beautiful spring-like day.

  1. Are your spring ponds full of Spring Peepers? They should be fair screaming (they can be so loud but they are heralding spring so I like the sound) here in a couple more weeks.

    • Oh yes! I’m pretty sure these ponds are full of peepers, though I didn’t see or hear them in daytime.
But every night, sitting in our living room, we hear them loud and clear from the vernal pools at the nearby bluffs and also the back field of the elementary school. It wouldn’t be spring without that sound! 🙂
