Mantis photobomb
As I marched along the deserted horse trail, a flash of bright red caught my eye. The play of shadows on the leaves, backlit by morning sun, was so irresistible I decided that I didn’t mind standing in the dried weeds to capture the shot.
It wasn’t until I checked out the images on my laptop that I saw the praying mantis perched on the same leaves that had attracted me! I’m sure she was wondering what strange one-eyed creature had suddenly descended on her daily routine.

Sweet young mantis! I love mantises! I used to keep one as a pet. š
I love them too — whenever one shows up around the house I run for my camera. Never kept one as a pet though. That must have been fun!
