Historic buildings: Sacramento

IMG_0043

I spent my Thursday traipsing around downtown Sacramento. I don’t actually go there too often these days, although back in the 1990s I worked at the Central Library for awhile.

I wanted to visit the Leland Stanford Mansion State Historic Park. Sadly, I wasn’t allowed to take many pictures inside, but I’m still glad I went. Plus I always enjoy spotting the few remaining Victorians amongst the proliferation of State office buildings and other high rises. I especially love the Mansard roof!

This last structure is the Heilbron House, located at the corner of 7th and O streets. It has the classic Italianate architecture popular in the late 1800s. The State of California wants the lot for another office building, so this Victorian’s future is uncertain. Let’s hope it will be saved for future generations to enjoy!

    • I loved working downtown & often had lunch in Capitol Park. Lovely old buildings, so hope that one’s saved!

      • I think it will be; it seems to have a lot of people on the side of relocating it — possibly next to the Stanford Mansion.
