I took myself on a mini scavenger hunt last week in anticipation of the challenges coming up in next couple weeks! It was fun trying to figure out where I might find items to fit this week’s category, and I got plenty of play time with my new camera (it’s a Canon PowerShot SX 530 HS, and I really like it thus far).
My first stop was the Leland Stanford Mansion State Historic Park in downtown Sacramento. Going in, I had visions of a vast dining room table covered in china place settings, with all the forks and spoons in their proper Victorian positions. Then I found out that I wasn’t allowed to take pictures inside the house and that there were no place settings on display. Oops!
Lucky for me, I had the tour guide all to myself and she was extremely kind and willing to help me out a little. When she heard I was interested in place settings, she took me back to the kitchen (NOT part of the regular tour) and began pulling out the various china patterns and laying them on the worktop for me to photograph.
My next stop was Sutter Street in Historic Folsom — namely, a wonderful little shop called Emily’s Antique Corner. I could spend days on end browsing through their rich collection of various items, from musical instruments to antique furniture to Little Golden Books. Every nook and cranny is stuffed with something, so look carefully; you don’t want to miss a thing!
Finally, I headed back out to Denio’s in Roseville. If you can’t find what you’re searching for at a flea market of this size, you’re just not doing it right!
