October 1996, Leavenworth, Washington — With this post I’m continuing my memories of the trip I took in 1996 with my mom to central Washington. There are so many things I wish I had photographed on that memorable journey — but all I have is a handful of images that don’t begin to tell the real story of the adventure we had! I do have a travel journal with a few anecdotes. That includes the day we parked our rental car on Front Street and went to enjoy a delicious lunch at The Soup Cellar.

When we went back to the car we found we were trapped in by the cars ahead of and behind us. So we kicked back in the car for awhile, until the people behind us came to drop off some of their packages, and they were nice enough to back up a bit so we could maneuver out. A few bystanders got a big kick out of helping or just watching. Oh, well. At least we got out, and it wasn’t as bad as it sounds.

When we first arrived in the area it was still too early to check into our room at the River’s Edge Lodge in Peshastin, just up the road from Leavenworth. So we drove down to the Waterfront Park and sat for awhile, taking in the quiet beauty and trying to unwind from our 30-hour train trip.

When we eventually got to check in, we found a nice comfy room with a sliding glass door leading to a terrace, a great spot to relax and listen to the sounds of the Wenatchee River below; Mom even spotted a baby otter sitting on a rock in the middle of the river.

This will be my last Memory Monday post until after the first of the year. I hope your holidays are filled with love, joy, and peace. See you next year!
