The Adventure Continues… Living History

Fort Ross State Historic Park, March 2003

Fort Ross, located on the Sonoma coast, has been one of my favorite historical places to visit; that’s partly because it is so easily visible from Highway 1 and seems to beckon me every time I pass by. This episode of California’s Gold originally aired in 1991; and these days the Fort Ross Conservancy hosts many types of activities for fun and learning at this historic site, celebrating native culture, Russian history, environmental living, and much more. The Tall Ship Californian still makes her home in San Diego and, among other duties, offers four-hour cruises to anyone wishing for a small taste of life before the mast!

Join Huell and experience a recreation of everyday life in a 19th century Russian community at Fort Ross State Historic Park; sail aboard the state’s official tall ship, the Californian, and see for yourself the site where Sir Francis Drake left a plate of brass when he landed on our California shore.
