Normally on our coastal trips, we opt to stay in a mid-priced motel. But this time we decided to splurge a bit and try something different — we rented a house! Aside from a few minor issues (it took us a few tries to open the lockbox holding the key to the front door), the place was very cool, and we were a bit sorry when we had to pack up and head back home.

The day before we left, I finally got the Big Guy to put his fishing rods away for a while and go hiking — or, as he put it, scout some good fishing spots.

We went looking for one of our old favorite spots, just north of Fort Ross; but everything looked very different, or maybe our memories just aren’t what they used to be! Either way, it was still a pretty area, with beautiful views to both north and south.
