Anderson Marsh State Park, May 2019

I’ve visited the area around Clear Lake, California, quite a number of times over the past several years, and on so many of those trips I dearly wished I had the time to stop and explore Anderson Marsh State Park. This past May I finally managed to get there — in fact, I spent a couple of very enjoyable mornings wandering the different trails. As great as it was, I feel like I only scratched the surface of this unique state park; I keep wishing that I lived a bit closer so I could return to enjoy the natural beauty as well as take part in some of the community events centered on the park.

So I was quite happy when I recently happened to catch this 2016 episode of the PBS show Viewfinder, titled A Walk Through Time. It describes the history of the area around Anderson Marsh and the important archaelogical finds and what they tell us about the original inhabitants — people who managed to live in harmony with the bountiful environment for an astounding 14,000 years. It also reveals the appreciation and loyalty that today’s local community has for Anderson Marsh State Park. I hope you’ll take 30 minutes to watch and enjoy this wonderful video.
