Morning meetup

During my hikes around Lake Natoma, I frequently hear the sounds of scurrying in the weeds or catch a quick glimpse out of the corner of my eye as some critter scuttles away from the top of a nearby rock or log. This morning, though, I came around a corner of the trail and locked eyes with this gorgeous Western Fence Lizard. He stood his ground bravely as I snapped a few photos. It had been a cloudy morning, and the sun was just starting to break out; this fellow had found himself a prime spot for sunbathing and clearly didn’t want to lose it.
