Huell did more than one show about the L.A. River, and when I chose this for my topic today it took me some time to decide which episode to feature. I finally realized that this half-hour segment, originally aired in 1994, was the best place to start. The L.A. River has been popping up in the news lately following heavy rains and flooding from a recent series of powerful storms. While a lot of us might be used to seeing the river as a concrete basin with very little water flowing, there’s actually much more to the L.A. River, especially when the water runs high. Huell introduces us to the Friends of the L.A. River, an organization formed in 1986 and still going strong.
Huell gets a first hand tour of this much-maligned river. He starts at its source and follows it to Long Beach where it empties into the ocean.
