Power Dam Falls on El Rito Creek

On our third road trip driving across Arizona and New Mexico this past month we had decided to allow ourselves time to stop and check out anything that caught our fancy. It turned out that not all our little side trips were successful — my failed attempt to buy Indian fry bread is only one example — but sometimes it’s the stuff you find pretty much by accident that impress you the most. While in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, the Big Guy decided to explore a few of the local ponds and lakes. This small town in the eastern part of the state seems to have plenty of natural lakes where locals can cool off by fishing or going for a swim! I’m always impressed by the beauty of New Mexico, and aside from the summer heat I could very happily spend time exploring much more than we’re able to see traveling along Interstate 40.
