Today I have a few more pictures of the interior of the old farmhouse near Manchester Beach in Mendocino County. These images were all shot with my phone, although as I went deeper inside I discovered that my best results came with using my phone’s flashlight in combination with the flash on my Fujifilm camera. At the moment, however, the only photos I have access to are the ones from my phone, so I’ll have to wait a bit before sharing the others. All these images were shot in early February 2025 except for my top photo.
The kitchen was at the back of the house. I noticed that the cabinet fronts still seemed to be in good condition, and the wallpaper — although not to my personal taste — would have been bright and cheerful at one time.
In this corner of the kitchen I found a tall cupboard with wire mesh shelves and partial openings to the outside, including what looked to me like a pet door on the bottom. I’m still curious about the purpose of this storage area.
Above, I’m standing where I believe a kitchen table would have been located. You can see the view toward the main entrance of the house, where daylight is shining on the door in the background. That door leads to a generously sized entry hall. The stairway to the second floor isn’t visible in these images, but it faces the open door seen in the background.
I had to watch my step when leaving the kitchen to avoid this large hole in the floor. Here you can see the side of the double-sided fireplace which faces both east (to the left) and west (to the right). I didn’t enter the room on the left since I had already shot pictures of it while standing outside, looking through the window. To the right is what seemed to be a larger living room or parlor adjoining the entry hall. Just behind the fireplace was a small closet — with a couple of clothes hangers still remaining.
