As much as I love getting out and spending time in nature, I’m generally a pretty lazy hiker. I like to take my time, pausing frequently to shoot photos; and I always dread the seemingly endless uphill slog back to the parking lot at Sterling Pointe Park. But now, with a super-enthusiastic explorer at the other end of the leash, this area of the lake between Granite Bay and Rattlesnake Bar is becoming a new favorite. Out here — at least during our current cold, wet season — I can reliably find the space for the pup to safely run off leash for a bit. On this particular day rain wasn’t an issue, but a few times I felt I was getting lashed by hurricane-force winds out on the points. My companion was happily oblivous to the cold wind and soggy trails and was still going strong all the way back to the car.
