WPC: Cherry on Top

The Daily Post Weekly Photo Challenge for the week of July 22, 2016. This week, share a photo of a detail that makes a good thing even better. Sometimes the cherry on top can  be a touch of color in an otherwise ordinary day. Sometimes it can be some unexpected bit of decoration spotted purely by accident. Sometimes it’s a sight […]

Tracks & Trains

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge this weeks is Tracks. This week’s topic is Tracks – trains, rail tracks anything to do with tracks.  For those who remember my Cee’s Which Way Challenge you were allowed to show train tracks, but not trains unless you could see the actual tracks too.  In this challenge you can show off your train photos as well.  Have fun with […]

Mexico Monday, Week 1

Welcome to the first installment of Mexico Monday! After (belatedly) doing a little math last night, I realized that if I share one picture each week it would take me 2 years (!) to finish the first bunch of slides.  And so I decided to post 2-3 images each week, at the very least. Also, one of my awesome readers, Galen911, has asked about the scanner […]

Dial M for Motivation

I’ve never done any theme days on my blog — unless you can count the photo challenges I take part in twice each week — but I’m thinking maybe now is a good time to try one out. I took on a project a couple of months ago that I’ve been excited about for awhile:  namely, scanning and archiving the many, many color slides my dad shot over the years.  It took me awhile to get all the equipment set up to do this, but I finally was able to get started! And then, not much happened.  I’m still excited about the project, but all sorts of little things have gotten in the way (this month it’s the Tour de France).  I think it’s time to stop making excuses and get serious about the work… especially since I’ve still got a whole lot of slides to scan!   The first 100 slides are from our family trips to Mexico in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and I know there are even more to come. So, how does Mexico Mondays sound?  I’ll share one image each week, and I’m hoping this will keep me on track, since I so desperately need somebody to crack the whip (and my mom is much too sweet to ever do that)! This coming Monday will be my official start, but here’s an image to kick things off.  Hope you enjoy Mexico Mondays!

Vive la France

Some days it feels like I’m constantly bombarded with tragic news and the horrific actions of other people. My heart goes out to everyone who has had such pain inflicted on them for reasons most of us find impossible to understand — not only in Nice, France, but so many other places around the world.

The Daily Post Weekly Photo Challenge for the week of July 15, 2016. For this week’s challenge, try to look past the big picture and take a more intimate approach. Zoom in on details in unexpected places — it can be something from the natural world, or it can be human-made. The invariable mark of wisdom is to see the […]
