In August I made my first ever visit to the eastern spur of the Point Reyes headland; unfortunately, because of the cold weather and a lack of time, I didn’t hike the trail to Chimney Rock, but as I noted yesterday I did check out (from afar) the elephant seals on the beach and, on the other end of the headland, a couple of historic buildings. The first thing I noticed was the Fish Docks, which are now abandoned and off limits to the public. I also hiked part of the way to the Historic Chimney Rock Lifeboat Station, operated by the US Coast Guard from 1927 to 1969.
