This has been a year of fun new adventures and experiences for me. I spent a few days in San Francisco and I’ve done more exploring around Sacramento and Folsom, always with my camera at the ready and the blog as my primary motivation. I’d like to think my artistic eye and my photography skills are improving, although I’m sure […]
It takes a special kind of resiliance to thrive where the soil is rocky or sandy, the waves pound, the air is salty, and fog frequently obscures the sun.
My entry for Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge this week. Any kind of water counts for this week’s theme from steam to stream, rain or sleet and, yes for you northern folks, snow and ice. Let’s see how creative you can get.

I’ve been at the coast with the Big Guy for a few days, with limited internet access and no phone service at all. March 1957 — The last leg of the trip, through Iowa, Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada. I’ll be back in 2018 with more memories. Happy Holidays!
On this mostly grey and chilly Christmas Eve, I spent my afternoon drinking mugs of hot tea and rewatching a collection of videos from my favorite childhood Christmas specials — Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the 1966 animated version with Boris Karloff). I finished off by watching “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” because I’ve always adored the Peanuts characters created by Charles Schulz, and the accompanying music by Vince Guaraldi never fails to make me smile. As much as I enjoyed reliving my childhood memories with the other three Christmas specials, this is the one that captures the true spirit of the season best for me. Maybe you’ll enjoy watching it too. https://dailymotion.com/video/x2cgz0g
