A little over a week ago, I posted photos of a few people ignoring the trail closure signs following damage to the bike trail near Negro Bar. I’ve since learned from the great people at Friends of Lakes Folsom and Natoma (FOLFAN) that the slide area isn’t likely to be repaired right away. From their February newsletter:
For now park management has been advised not to put staff or equipment in the area until after the wet season, maybe as late as March. There is still great potential for additional slides especially with vibrations from heavy equipment working below. For now the trail will remain closed… We had an emergency closure of Lake Natoma due to high flows for one day in late January. And the dock at Negro Bar boat launch was destroyed in the high flows. That launch ramp will remain closed until the dock can be removed.
I took the above photo today, using my Android phone and a pair of binoculars, standing on the beach at Negro Bar. The river flows are still very high — and this series of storms isn’t finished with us yet! Hopefully this coming weekend we’ll see some sunshine.
