Honoring the brave

Detail of “Holding the Line”
The California Firefighters Memorial in Capitol Park consists of three parts — a Memorial Wall and two bronze statues. The wall contains the names of more than 13,000 firefighters who died in the line of duty since 1850, when California became a state.
While the site was dedicated in 1995, it wasn’t until April 2002 that the memorial was finally unveiled. The California Fire Foundation holds an annual ceremony to honor the fallen heroes of the past and to add names to the wall.
