A visit to Ancil Hoffman Park

IMG_4390

I made a quick trip to Ancil Hoffman Park the other day — the first time I’d been there in about 30 years, even though it’s a mere 30 minutes away from my house (allowing for traffic on surface streets). The park sits alongside the American River and contains nearly 400 acres of protected land in the middle of suburban Carmichael. It includes a nature center which is popular with school children, a golf course, and plenty of hiking trails with wildlife — especially blacktail deer, who seem to be fairly comfortable with the sight of hikers passing by or pausing to take pictures.
