Prison walls

IMG_4533

The newest stretch of the Johnny Cash Trail in Folsom crosses Robber’s Ravine and heads east towards Folsom Dam; it runs parallel to East Natoma Street as it crosses beneath the first of two small roads entering the grounds of Folsom Prison.

The exterior of the underpass clearly pays tribute to the many blocks of granite used to construct the buildings at the original Folsom Prison. But walking through the stark white concrete interior of the tunnel gave me an eerie feeling of incarceration all on its own.

Maybe it was only a product of my overactive imagination, but even the shadows on the bridge approach seemed to want to fence me in!IMG_4569
