What is it about genus arboretum that socks us in the figurative solar plexus? We see a logging truck go cruising down the road, stacked with a bunch of those fresh-cut giants, we feel like we lost a brother. Next thing you know, we’re in The Brick, we’re flopping money down on the bar. Wood. We’re under a roof. Wood. […]
Last Thursday we were standing by the side of the road as the 2018 Amgen Tour of California departed the city of Folsom and climbed through the foothills of Placerville up into the Sierra Nevada mountains to South Lake Tahoe. Huell also discovered the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area, where people are working very hard to mitigate damage to the Colorado River, a […]
Even if I’m not lucky enough to spot a blacktail deer while hiking near Lake Natoma, there are still plenty of great details for my camera — if I keep my eyes and my mind open.
I’m never surprised to see Canada geese along the shores of Lake Natoma. But this pair it seems have found a safe nesting spot on a tiny island, shielded by Himalayan blackberry bushes and almost completely invisible from shore. The only way I managed to take pictures was by balancing awkwardly on some rocks and sticking my camera lens through […]
