A little over a year ago I shared these images of a tiny door that I happened to notice while hiking along the bike trail near the city of Folsom. I thought it was delightful but had no idea who might have placed it there or why. I don’t hike that way very often, but whenever I did I’d look for the door — but it seemed to have disappeared. After awhile I wasn’t even sure I was looking in the right area anymore.

Until this morning, when something unusual caught my eye, intriguing me enough that I paused beneath the noonday sun and tried — both literally and figuratively — to put the pieces back together and make sense of it all.

I almost feel sorry for the perpetrator. Almost!
