On Saturday morning I was on my way to Lands End in San Francisco, riding a Muni bus westbound along Geary Boulevard; I had made this trip before and I fully expected the bus would drop me off at Point Lobos and 48th Street, not too far from the Cliff House. But for whatever reason, this particular bus made a surprise turn, and the driver announced that 33rd Street was his last stop. I found myself wandering along Anza Street and consulting Google, looking for the quickest route to start of the Lands End Trail. I was sure it was a mistake when my directions steered me onto the grounds of the VA Hospital — but then I turned the corner and found this trail.
