Oaks Nature Trail

This wasn’t exactly the trail I was looking for out at Peninsula Campground on Folsom Lake, but I’ll admit I enjoyed the quiet morning walk beneath the trees. It’s less than a mile in length and mostly flat, so a pretty easy hike. There are also plenty of interpretive signs, although those that aren’t shaded by the trees are showing some serious sun damage.

I need to go back during the spring when the lake levels are (hopefully) higher and everything is green and blooming. The small creek I passed over (Folsom Creek, per the sign) is completely dry at the moment. Because the campground is open and filled to capacity — with plenty of social distancing space between camp sites — I didn’t see much wildlife, other than the usual Canada geese and a flock of turkeys who melted into the underbrush as soon as they spied me.
