Acorn Woodpeckers are so abundant in my area that sometimes I tend to take them for granted. But they truly are one of my favorite little birds, with a bright red cap and white-spotted wings, as well as their strategy of storing away acorns in trees and constantly rearranging them.
The Sacramento neighborhood known as Alkali Flat has a history going back to the 1850s and 1860s. Thanks to preservation efforts, many of the beautiful Victorian houses have been restored to their former glory and hopefully will survive many more years into the future. At the orphanage, located near Puerto Vallarta, everybody worked together to get the job done. These slides don’t have any written captions, but it’s clear to see the effort and cooperation it took just to complete a mundane chore like laundry. I really love how everybody is smiling as they work together.
As much as I enjoyed all the animals at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido, the arboretum sections were also irresistible in their own way — and much less crowded. This wasn’t exactly the trail I was looking for out at Peninsula Campground on Folsom Lake, but I’ll admit I enjoyed the quiet morning walk beneath the trees.
