The Adventure Continues… Bike Race

One of the most exciting parts of watching the Tour de France is the mountain climbing; it takes some special skills and the right sort of gear setup to stay in contention while suffering over the peaks of the Alps and the Pyrenees. And while I’ve seen some ferociously steep mountains feature in a few different professional bike races, I’ve never seen anything quite like the fearsome climb on Fargo Street in this episode of Visiting. Huell joined the spectactors at the event in 2003 — and quickly realized that even just walking to the top of the hill was a breathtaking experience. It can be difficult for cameras to convey the steep angle of a climb like this, but after watching a few of these cyclists try to make it to the top, I think you’ll get a feel for what a challenge this hill really is!

Join Huell, the Los Angeles Wheelmen and other bicyclists as they climb Fargo Street in the Echo Park district of Los Angeles. Fargo Street is just 1/10 of a mile long, but it boasts a 33% grade, making this annual event a true test of endurance.
