Winter ponds

A thin coating of ice around the edges

On the final day of 2022, I’m looking at some more images from our recent stay in Texas. It did get pretty cold, but the Dallas-Fort Worth area only caught the tailing edge of the winter storm that caused so much misery in the eastern U. S. We had ice but no snow; and by the time we caught our flight home, temperatures were climbing back up into the 60s (F).

This mallard pair came in for a landing on the ice, skidded to a halt, and then stood around for a few minutes before taking flight once more to find open water.
