The Adventure Continues… Food with History

I’ve heard it said you should never go grocery shopping on an empty stomach — and perhaps I also shouldn’t browse through the Huell Howser Archives on an empty stomach! Huell definitely loved to do segments involving food, and many of his segments involved going in search of various types of food, where he was always very happy to do some taste testing. In this one-hour episode, originally aired in 2006, he focuses mainly on one of my favorite foods, tamales. The first half of this episode also appeared as a segment of California’s Gold entitled Noriega’s, which aired the same year. Inevitably, some changes have occurred since that time. The original Noriega’s Hotel Restaurant closed down on May 1, 2020. However, it has since reopened in a new location and new owners but retaining the original fixtures, the decor, and — most importantly — the recipes.

Join Huell on one of his favorite adventures, looking for good food. In this special, he not only samples delicious meals, but also learns the important history about Basque food and tamales.
