In Hendy Woods
Last October we were at the Mendocino coast, and one afternoon the Big Guy decided to take a little time away from fishing to go hiking with me in the giant redwoods of Hendy Grove. From the Navarro River Bridge on Highway 1 it was less than a 30-minute drive along a beautiful stretch of Highway 128 and into the Anderson Valley. This was our first visit to Hendy Woods State Park, but it left me wishing to go back again and spend more time exploring their five miles of trails. Walking among these huge trees is such an amazing and humbling experience — and the quiet of the forest gently transports you away from cares of the busy world. The loop trail we chose was less than a mile long; I would have loved to check out the Hermit Hut but the afternoon was getting away from us, so after a quick look at the Navarro River, we headed back to our coastal cabin.
