Western waterfowl

Buffleheads at Lake Berryessa, January 2025

There are so many different types of waterfowl to be seen around the Sacramento area and in various places up and down the valley. I still hope to make it up to the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge to see Snow geese in the winter, and I keep meaning to spend some quality time in the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area. In the meantime, I enjoy the ones I spot more local to me; and although I’m including a few I photographed earlier this year in north Texas, they were all found in the middle of the Metroplex at an artificial pond rather than out in the wilds. I also had to include last year’s Green heron because it was my very first good sighting of that particular species.
