The Adventure Continues… Huell in Havana

You’ve probably noticed that my regular Wednesday posts have been missing since early March. I never intended to discontinue them but the past three months have been filled with distractions and uncertainty; now I’m hoping things will settle back into a more normal routine and I can pick up where I left off. With that being said, this week I wanted to take a look at an episode of Visiting that’s very unusual! It’s one hour in length and originally aired on June 13, 1996, some 19 years before travel restrictions to Cuba were lifted, when it was still very uncommon for folks from the U.S. to visit — although clearly a few were still getting through. Huell finds wonderfully warm, friendly people, beautiful old Spanish-American architecture, a farmers market, and of course a number of vintage American cars, well-loved and cared for by their new owners. And there are, of course, one or two surprises along the way.

Huell spends ten days in Cuba and brings his Hi-8 video. We get a rare look at Havana and a feel for life in this “off limits” country.
