Partway up a mountain
Of all the times I happened to be travelling along Highway 29 in Lake County (west of Clear Lake) and noticed the interestingly named Bottle Rock Road, I never imagined that one day I’d be turning onto that very road in search of a new hiking spot. It was already past noon when I arrived at Boggs Lake Preserve, on the flanks of Boggs Mountain (2,780 ft/847 m). On this particular day, there were no other people around, and there was scarcely any traffic passing the preserve site on narrow, winding Harrington Flat Road. I think if I get the chance I’d like to go back earlier in the spring or maybe even in the winter, just to see what changes the seasons bring at this elevation.
