November bouquet
Even in November I found a few hardy flowers still bravely in bloom in the back yards and along the streets of Point Arena.

I don’t have any profound theme going on today — just a small and completely random selection of photos I’ve shot over the past seven years. Today they’re helping remind me how blessed I’ve been, able to visit these different spots and to have these memories to hold onto.
He didn’t have to look too hard to find all sorts of examples of life when Huell visited Death Valley National Park for the first time. This Classic episode of California’s Gold originally aired back in June 1995. I’ve previously featured an hour-long episode entitled “Springtime in Death Valley,” but it was filmed ten years later, in the spring of […]
Back in May of this year I shared one or two images of our visit to this area of the Mendocino coast, but I still haven’t had a chance to seriously explore Jughandle State Reserve proper. On this cloudless November afternoon we parked alongside the highway about 5 miles south of Fort Bragg and hiked past the gate to the […]
We never know what to expect on our trips to the coast, and this trip is looking pretty promising, judging by the first day or so. I finally got my wish to see some cows up close. They were fairly mellow, although I know enough to be cautious around animals of this size! And I’ve found a few other cool […]
Looking back through my images of the hiking trails in The Sea Ranch always makes me feel better about things. We spent a week there in late September this year, and if there’s anything I enjoy as much as being near the ocean, it has to be wandering through the redwoods and other trees of Northern California’s coast range.
I’ve visited Moat Creek’s beach a handful of times in the past few years but I never seem to get quite enough. It’s beautiful at high tide and a popular surfing spot, but I’m always hoping to get a chance to explore the tide pools — on this occasion they were hidden underwater. The small parking area is roughly two […]
When I visited Point Reyes in late September I was hoping for a chance to check out the Tomales Point Elk Reserve. Unfortunately I ran short on time; after a quick trip to the Historic Point Reyes Lifeboat Station, I was returning north along the peninsula along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. It’s a narrow, two-lane road without much of a […]
Morning dew on a spider’s web, a beautiful but deadly trap in the Sonoma County redwoods.
