No matter how turbulent the water gets at this spot on the American River, the birds take it all in stride. They’re not too interested in posing for pictures, though!
It’s not too surprising that a pond-dwelling turtle would be sunning himself on a log; but I never even noticed him sitting there until I looked at the image on my computer. If that’s not a ninja turtle, I don’t know what is!

Our warm weather has kicked in, and the mosquitos are ravenous (ask me how I know). I shot these photos a couple of weeks ago at the American River, near the William B. Pond Recreation Area in Carmichael. I already miss those cloudy, cooler days!
