Acorn Woodpeckers are so abundant in my area that sometimes I tend to take them for granted. But they truly are one of my favorite little birds, with a bright red cap and white-spotted wings, as well as their strategy of storing away acorns in trees and constantly rearranging them.

The theme for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge this week is Sense of Seeing. I never know what I might see while I’m out hiking at Folsom Lake. It might be a forgotten book on a lonely picnic table — or it might be a couple of very colorful little birds gazing down at me from the trees.
This morning we managed to find a spot out at Folsom Lake where very few other people were hiking, and the birds were in abundance. The best part was that, with no boats on the water and minimal vehicle traffic on the roads, it was possible to fully enjoy the sounds of nature on this warm spring day.
