All-Time Favorites — Trying to choose my favorite photo is nearly impossible, but I’ve chosen this image because I love the silhouette of the pigeons’ flight against the grey, overcast sky — and because it reminds me of how happy I felt in that moment, standing in the middle of the bridge, looking down into the Sacramento River and feeling a cool breeze on my face.

Tree swallow

I was hiking the Rattlesnake Bar trail on Folsom Lake with the Big Guy when I was lucky to find this handsome male tree swallow who didn’t mind sitting still for my camera. I had never seen this type of bird before, but after checking out the video from All About Birds, I’m certain I’ve heard them plenty of times.

Flash of red
