A small grass fire

I’m not sure when this burn happened, but I took this picture at the end of July. The blackened area continues south for several hundred yards, between the lake and the bike trail. I’m just grateful that fire crews arrived quickly enough to keep the fire from spreading any farther.

Zinnia elegans

I’ve been posting a lot of images of roses lately, but I think that zinnias are my favorite flower — and today I stumbled upon a whole garden full of them — including one determined plant growing wild in a patch of dried weeds, just across the street.

Morning solitude

For me, mornings are absolutely the best time to be at Lake Natoma — whether I’m up near Lake Natoma Crossing or down at the other end, near Nimbus Dam. Sometimes it’s hard for me to get myself out of the house, but once I’m outside, I always feel better.
