It’s been pretty cold around here these past few days, especially in the mornings and evenings, dipping down into the area of frost and freeze warnings. The days have been mostly sunny and sometimes downright warm, enough to give courage to a few hardy and hopeful spring flowers.
The beautiful Sumatran tiger is critically endangered, with only around 400 left in the shrinking forests of Indonesia. This one lives at the Sacramento Zoo.

I made a couple of quick trips to the Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park this past weekend, and I nearly walked right past these beautiful roses without noticing them. They’re growing just north of the main powerhouse, right outside the small building containing the machine shop and the superintendent’s office.

It could be that after last night’s downpour, these pigeons are hoping to dry out their damp feathers. It might also be that they are waiting for the nice lady down the street to put out a pile of food. But who knows — maybe the birds are just enjoying this morning’s warm sunshine.
