I’m always up for a great tower view, and the Harmon Observation Tower, part of the de Young Museum in San Francisco, was completely new to me. While admission to the museum itself is not free, tower access costs nothing — all the more reason to check out the scenery of San Francisco from eight stories up.
The Crocker in downtown Sacramento is the oldest art museum west of the Mississippi River, founded in 1885. Although it now has a large modern building, the original mansion is still very much a part of the museum — and probably still my favorite part.

I couldn’t resist trying to shoot last night’s crescent moon, although I wasn’t using a tripod and the image is a little blurry. I was using a setting where the camera takes three shots in succession; so perhaps tonight I’ll get outside with the tripod and see if I can do a little better.
