When I visited the beautiful Stanford Mansion in downtown Sacramento last June, I was disappointed to learn I wasn’t allowed to take photographs inside. So it really pleases me to see that in this episode of California’s Golden Parks Huell is highlighting most of the amazing rooms that impressed me so much… including the upstairs bathroom!
When this episode originally aired, the Stanford Mansion had only recently completed its initial restoration and not too many people had seen the inside yet. During my visit in 2017, the building was undergoing some more work, and parts of the structure were wrapped in scaffolding and tarps. But the loving detail with which the mansion has been restored still remains, and the docents who act as guides very clearly enjoy the beautiful surroundings in which they work.
At one time it was home to one of California’s most important and powerful families. Today it’s been beautifully restored and is open to everyone as one of California’s State Historic Parks. Join PBS host Huell Howser as he tours this historic mansion and discovers its treasures!
