Sunday at Splash

Checkerbloom

A couple of days ago I mentioned my visit to Sacramento Splash, located at Mather Field (a former Air Force Base). I didn’t shoot as many pictures as I would have liked, but I still had a great time and learned a few things about vernal pools and the flowers that grow in and around them. I’m now looking forward to watching the spring bloom around the vernal pools at Phoenix Park, and I’m having fun trying to identify all the wildflowers I encounter — although that’s a lot easier said than done, I’m discovering!

Our guide was very excited when we spotted this tiny vernal pool monkeyflower!
