The Adventure Continues… Shasta
I happened to catch this episode of California’s Golden Parks on TV a few days ago, and I’m glad I saw it because it’s a good reminder of how easy it is to overlook some really amazing history as we travel around the state. Sometimes it’s not possible to stop and check out every potentially interesting sight… so I’m glad in this case, at least, Huell was able to explore Shasta State Historic Park on our behalf!
Shasta City is located six miles west of Redding. During the California gold rush it was the “Queen City” of California’s northern mining district prospering from 1850-1890. Huell Howser visits Shasta State Historic Park, a reminder of the area’s gold rush legacy with brick ruins of a once thriving gold rush shopping district and a courthouse museum filled with original artifacts from the era.
