William Randolph Hearst’s San Simeon is one of the more beautiful and unique spots in our state — and while the mansion is certainly impressive, as Huell says in this 2009 episode of California’s Gold, there is much more to the place than just the buildings. The magnificent gardens were so carefully planned to complement the surrounding countryside, and they continue to be tended with love and attention so that future generations can enjoy them. It’s been far too long since I visited Hearst Castle, and I’m not sure when I’ll make it back there; but I hope you enjoy this virtual tour of the grounds as much as I have.
