The quarry again
I didn’t plan this very well. The last time I stopped along the Rattlesnake Bar Road to take pictures of the old quarry, it was March and the sky was full of dark, rain-filled clouds. The conditions weren’t great for hiking, but for shooting this scene, I couldn’t have asked for much better.
This time, though, it was a warm, cloudless day — and when I reached the quarry it was high noon. There wasn’t much I could do about it; but my mobile phone seemed to capture the depth of the colors better than my other cameras.
Although I had the place entirely to myself, it’s clearly a “party spot” (and probably a target range) where nobody bothers to pick up their trash. I’m not too sure I’d want to swim in this water, either. I noticed that at one time access was blocked by a chain link fence; but the fencing has been knocked down and tossed to one side of the entry point. Although I would be interested to learn something about the history of this old quarry I have to say that, while I might stop for another quick look if the light was right, I’ll never make the long drive specifically to visit the quarry again.
