Today I was planning to feature a completely different episode of Visiting, but then I happened to read the blurb from this one, which originally aired in July 1999. Since I actually mentioned foraging in my post on Monday (Earth Day), it felt only fitting to take a look at some serious foraging right in the heart of Los Angeles. And his guide on the day, Christopher, is still teaching survival and foraging skills to anyone willing to learn! I’ll admit I was a bit disappointed that dandelions were not mentioned —  but I had to laugh when Huell realized he was “out in a vacant lot eating weeds.”

Starting in a vacant lot near Downtown, Huell get a lesson in survival food. Learn which weeds are good for salads, which taste better cooked, and which ones to stay away from.
