Newport Coastal Trail

We went looking for potential new fishing spots north of Fort Bragg, hoping to reach the town of Westport and maybe a bit beyond. Leaving behind gusty north winds in Point Arena, the Big Guy had only a vague idea of what he was looking for, but we were enjoying the process of exploration. Just a little south of Bruhel Point we stumbled upon the tiny parking lot by the Newport Coastal Trail, previously called the Kibesillah Trail. Perpendicular to the highway, a short downhill pathway between fencing took us to a viewing platform. The vista was beautiful, of course, but naturally the Big Guy felt mostly disappointment that there was no way to access the water. A couple miles up the road, construction work had traffic stopped, backed up in long lines;we decided that was our cue to head back south and try again some other day.
