More from Mendocino Village

Beach and headland just off Main Street

During our visit to Mendocino in early March 2023, we stayed in a quiet cabin on the east side of Highway 1, about a mile from the headlands. I’ve never been inside the MacCallum House Inn or barn, and when I shot these pictures I didn’t even realize there were guest rooms in the barn; but I was drawn to the rustic look of the place. I learned later that the original barn was built in the 1800s; in 1977, new owners tore down the old barn and rebuilt it using the original materials.

I couldn’t resist capturing these wonderful murals when I discovered them inside the restroom just off Main Street, near the Ford House Visitor Center and Museum.
